When Every Inch Counts

Some jobs are straightforward. TV goes up, wires disappear, everyone's happy. This Placerville job wasn't one of those - and that's exactly what made it interesting.

The homeowner had a 75-inch LG TV they wanted above a stacked stone fireplace. Great combination in theory. But when I showed up and looked at the wall, the challenge was immediate: the space between the top of the fireplace and the ceiling was tight. Not impossible tight - but the kind of tight where you have to plan every millimeter before you drill anything.

The Tight Space Problem

With a 75-inch TV, you're working with a screen that's roughly 66 inches wide and about 38 inches tall. Add the mount behind it, and you need to know exactly how much vertical clearance you have from the mantel to the ceiling - and how much of that the TV is going to consume.

In this case, the TV top ended up with just a sliver of space to the ceiling. You can see it clearly from the side angle - the TV is practically kissing the ceiling. Any higher and it wouldn't have fit. Any lower and the viewing angle from the couch would've been off.

That's the calculation on every tight-space job: find the exact height that clears the ceiling, keeps the viewing angle comfortable, and still looks intentional rather than crammed in.

The Install

The homeowner already had a Mounting Dream bracket on hand, which worked fine for this application. Found the studs, confirmed clearance on all four sides, and drove the lag bolts in square. The bracket locked in solid, the TV went up without drama, and the finished result looks like it was designed that way from the start - which is always the goal.

Placerville TV Mounting

Placerville is a bit of a drive from Sacramento, but I make the trip when the job is right - and this one was worth it. Whether it's a tight-clearance situation like this, a stone fireplace that needs special anchoring, or just a standard living room wall, the approach is always the same: measure twice, plan the bracket before you drill, and don't stop until it looks right.
