Stucco + Fireplace + Soundbar — A Folsom Job Walkthrough
Stucco above a fireplace is one of the trickier combinations we see in the Sacramento area — and one of the most common. This Folsom job is a good example of how it's done right.
After 1,100+ installations, this type of job is something we handle regularly. But it takes the right anchors, the right planning, and a drill that can handle masonry.

What Makes Stucco Challenging
Stucco looks solid, but it's a finish coat — typically ¾" to 1" of material over wire lath and sheathing. You can't anchor into the stucco itself. You need to drill through it and hit the structural wall behind.
The two main layers beneath stucco on a typical Sacramento-area home:
For TV mounts, we always try to hit studs when possible. If stud placement doesn't line up with the mount, we use toggle bolts rated for the load — never just standard drywall anchors into the sheathing.
What to avoid: Standard drywall toggle bolts are not adequate for stucco. The stucco layer can crack and shift over time, especially with heavier TVs. Use anchors rated for masonry or, better yet, locate and hit the studs behind the sheathing.
The Fireplace Factor
Add a fireplace surround and you have two challenges working against each other: the TV needs to be high enough to clear the mantel, but not so high that viewing becomes uncomfortable.
For this Folsom install, the customer already had a bracket they picked up. They wanted a Samsung TV mounted above the mantel with a Klipsch soundbar sitting flush directly below it, just above the fireplace surround.
That meant bracket placement had to account for:
Hiding Cables on Stucco
This is usually where stucco jobs get tricky. In-wall routing isn't as straightforward as standard drywall — you can't just cut a channel.
Options depending on your wall construction:
On this install, cables were managed cleanly — nothing showing.
