The Right TV for the Right Wall

Some walls practically tell you what they want. This Granite Bay home had a floor-to-ceiling stacked stone fireplace flanked by two tall windows - dramatic, custom, and the clear centerpiece of the room. The homeowners chose a Samsung Frame TV, and it was the perfect call.

The Frame TV is designed to look like art when it's not in use. It displays photos or classic artwork instead of sitting as a big black rectangle. On a stone fireplace like this, that matters - you're complementing the architecture, not competing with it.

How I Actually Did This Mount

Stone installs require a completely different approach than drywall. Here's exactly how this one went.

Drilling through the stone

I started with a concrete bit to get through the outer surface of the stone, then switched to a tile bit to finish the holes cleanly. The key is drilling slowly and letting the bit do the work - rushing it cracks the stone. I drilled 1/2-inch holes straight through to set the Toggler wall anchors, which expand behind the stone and give you a rock-solid hold.

Getting the brackets level

With uneven stone, eyeballing it doesn't cut it. I used a laser level to get both wall brackets exactly even with each other. That precision matters - even a small difference shows up once the TV is hanging.

Spacing the brackets off the stone

Here's a detail a lot of people miss: stacked stone isn't flat. If you bolt a bracket directly to it, you'll get a wobbly mount because the bracket is only making contact on the high points. I used spacers behind each wall bracket to bring them out past the surface texture so they sit perfectly flush and stable.

The Samsung Frame's built-in spacers

The Frame TV actually ships with 1/4-inch spacers designed for exactly this situation. I installed them on the back of the TV so that when it hangs on the mount, the uneven texture of the stone doesn't push one corner of the TV out further than the other. The result is a TV that hangs perfectly level even though the stone surface behind it isn't.

There is a small gap between the TV and the stone - that's intentional and required. You need it because of the stone's texture. Without it, the TV would be sitting on the high points of the stone and tilting.

Wires

The homeowners already had wires run inside the wall - so this was a clean install from the start. No raceway, no surface cables, nothing to deal with. Just mount, hang, done.

The Finished Look

Step back and you see exactly what the Frame TV is designed for. It looks like a painting on the stone wall - windows on both sides, high ceilings above. Nobody's looking at a black screen. They're looking at art on a beautiful fireplace.

Thinking About a Samsung Frame TV on Stone?

This install had a few moving parts - the right drill bits, Toggler anchors, spacers behind the bracket, and the Frame's own spacers on the back of the TV. Get any one of those wrong and you've either got a wobbly mount or a TV that's not hanging level.
