Is the Samsung Frame TV Worth It? A TV Installer's Perspective

By Dan Dyer|

We Install More Frame TVs Than Any Other Model

The Samsung Frame TV is, hands down, the TV we install most at Dan's TV Mounting. And our customers almost universally love it. But is it worth the premium price? After installing dozens of them across Sacramento, here's my honest take.

What Makes the Frame TV Different

The Samsung Frame TV is designed to look like a framed piece of art when you're not watching it. It has a matte display that reduces reflections, a customizable bezel (frame) that comes in different colors and styles, and an "Art Mode" that displays artwork when the TV is off.

The key hardware difference: the One Connect box. Unlike regular TVs where all the ports are on the back, the Frame TV has a slim cable that runs from the TV to a separate box (the One Connect) where you plug in all your devices. This means only one thin cable runs to the TV, making flush wall mounting possible.

The Installation Difference

Here's what most people don't realize: a Samsung Frame TV installation is fundamentally different from a regular TV mount.

What a Regular TV Mount Requires

Wall mount bracket
Lag bolts into studs
Hang the TV
Done (30-45 minutes)

What a Frame TV Installation Requires

Samsung no-gap wall mount (specific to Frame TV)
Precise positioning so the TV sits perfectly flush
In-wall recessed power box (essential — visible cables ruin the art look)
One Connect box concealment (behind furniture, in a cabinet, or in-wall)
One Connect cable routing (through the wall for a clean look)
Art Mode setup and WiFi connection
Bezel/frame attachment
Total time: 1-2 hours

The Frame TV needs professional installation to look right. That's not a sales pitch — it's just the reality. A Frame TV mounted with visible cables and a gap from the wall defeats the entire purpose.

Is Art Mode Actually Good?

Yes. It's genuinely impressive. Samsung's art store has thousands of pieces, and the matte display technology makes them look surprisingly realistic — more like a print than a screen. You can also upload your own photos, which many of our Sacramento customers love for family photos, landscape shots, and local art.

The motion sensor is smart — it turns Art Mode off when no one is in the room to save energy, and turns it back on when you walk in.

The Art Mode Cost

Samsung's Art Store requires a subscription ($5.99/month or $49.99/year) for unlimited access to their full collection. You get a few free pieces, and you can upload your own photos for free. Most of our customers either use their own photos or subscribe for a few months to find pieces they like.

The Frame (Bezel)

The TV comes with a basic black bezel. Upgraded bezels in wood tones, white, or other colors are available in different sizes. Most customers upgrade — the wood bezels especially look fantastic.

Who Should Get a Frame TV

Yes, get a Frame TV if:

The TV is in a prominent location (living room, dining area, entryway)
Aesthetics matter to you — you want the TV to enhance the room's design
You're willing to invest in proper professional installation
You like the idea of Art Mode displaying artwork or photos

Skip the Frame TV if:

It's for a bedroom, game room, or home theater where looks don't matter as much
You're on a tight budget (better to get a larger standard TV for the same money)
You're not planning professional installation (a Frame TV with visible cables looks worse than a regular TV)
You want the absolute best picture quality for movies (Samsung's standard QLED and OLED actually have slightly better picture processing)

Our Sacramento Frame TV Experience

We install Frame TVs in every type of Sacramento home — from Midtown condos to Granite Bay estates. The most popular installation spots:

1.Living room above the fireplace — the Frame TV looks stunning above a stone or brick fireplace
2.Main living wall — often replacing a large piece of art
3.Master bedroom — clean, flush look without a visible TV dominating the room
4.Dining area or entryway — spaces where a regular TV would look out of place but a Frame TV looks like intentional art
